Parparia is a small village of farmers and cattle-breeders at 300 meters of altitude at the west mountainside of Amani, 54km far away from Chios Town and 13km from Volissos.
Parparia is a really ancient site: Stavros Stefanidis has been studying the history and origin of this village after he found an old map of Chios in the Koraes Library telling that Parparia was at least almost 600 years old.
If you are interested in learning something more about this topic, have a look to the following Webpage made by Mr. Stefanidis http://www.varvathos.com/events.html.
The beach of the village is Zanakounta, also called Agios Isidoros because of the chapel in the beach dedicated to him. Interesting is the area of Panagia Pagoussena, North-West of the Village, just on the top of the mountain where Parparia is situated: here you will find the famous church and the excellent natural water springs of Pagousena.
On July 26th and September 25th the local festivals take place in the central square of the village, and here tourists can spend some time in the typical cafenia (cafes), where food and local mezedes accompanied by ouzo are served and can also enjoy a walk through the narrow streets of the village admiring the old stone houses and the breathtaking view to the sea.
